Not all states of hypnosis can only be achieved by seeking out a qualified hypnotherapist. It is advised that if your personal problem is considered deep-rooted, you may require professional help. However self hypnosis or meditation is also an option. There are steps to take to experience self hypnosis. The following is a basis outline of the steps to follow. 1) Find a comfortable, peaceful and private place where you can sit or lie comfortably. Usually a soft chair or couch is the best choice so your body can completely relax.2) Make sure that no one will disturb your silence for at least 30 minutes. 3) Close your eyes and focus on releasing any stress, anxiety or worry you may be feeling. This is often very difficult as one's mind is constantly working. Try to see your worries from an impartial point of view and then allow them to slip away. 4) Connect with the tension and strain you have in your body. Start from your feet and focus on releasing the tension from every part of you. Think of your body getting lighter and lighter as the stress begins to leave. Imaging relaxing things like running water can help to further relax. 5) Take slow, deep breaths. Focus on the inhale and exhale. As you exhale, picture a dark cloud leaving your body and as you inhale, imagine bright pure air filling your lungs. 6) Start to count numbers in your head as you find further relaxation. Different people imagine different things to achieve extreme relaxation. A good example is to imagine a flight of stairs and as you step down each step, your body feels more and more relaxed. 7) Start to address the issue that is bothering you. Speak to yourself in the present tense so your conscious can understand and process your words. 'I am feeling…….'8) Repeat the statement for yourself several times so that the words enter your mind and be understood. 9) When you are satisfied that your issue has been addressed, begin to count from 0 to 10 to bring yourself back to 'reality' and normal consciousness. 10) Give yourself time afterwards to fully open your eyes and sit for a few moments. Please be aware: self hypnosis may not be sufficient to address all issues. If you do not get the results you desire, this does not mean you were not in hypnosis. It might just mean you need extra help.
